what did you guys say for 2 f)

i said there is little symmetry but im having trouble getting my graphs to accurately show that..

How do they show symmetry? This is symetry:

its equal on all sides the graphs are different. The mean, mode etc arent equal either.

So, how come when you work it out manually, you get a different answer from excel?

i.e. 1(20+1)
---------- = 5.25
4

So, this would mean the 5.25th term in the sequency is the value for Q1.

So, I gather to work out Q1 and the 5.25th term, we have to do the following:
(6th term - 5th term)
---------------------------- = x
4

then we add x to the 10th term.

So, in the case of the question we do the following:
(0.97-0.93)
-------------- = .04/4 = 0.01
4

Then we add x to the .93 term = 0.94

Yet in excel the answer is the following when i type in the formula:
=QUARTILE(A1:A20),1
The answer here is:
0.96

AHHHHHH! WHERE DOES THE 0.96 come from????

The histograms for age and salary are not symetrical. The bulk of the data falls into the 300-400 bin, with the rest of the data being unevenly distributed.

Question 4: We have to work out the quadrant 1 and 2 for each call center. I'm using the first one I think.

im pretty sure you just have arrange in ascending order

then find the number in between the 5th and 6th (for 1st quad)

and between 15th and 16th for 3rd quad

i highlighted the salary column (figures only) and clicked phstat --> descrp. stats---> box&whisk, dot..everything

for 1d) has any one figured out what we're meant to do with the histograms yet? like, use the java applet or use excel? i emailed my tutor but she hasn't replied. thx...

descriptive statistics are measures of central tendency and variation. inferential statistics are comments which can be inferred from descriptive statistics and other information which is provided with data.

therefore all you have to do is claculate the mean, median, mode, range, inter-quartile range, stdev, variance etc. when it asks for descriptive stats.

im an idiot, so if im wrong let me know.
