Ok power training and plyometrics--i have the basic notes but we have to do an inquiry/research question on
--methods of developing power and the advantages and disadvantages
--potentail dangers and neccessary precautions with plyometric power training

Any one help?

how do you describe the nature of basketball? and how principals of training are applied to basketball- especially progressive overload

Plyometrics:
Plyometrics as Without Wings pointed out are preformed fast and involve the stretch shortening cycle, these two fall into the catergory of Nerver Firing Impulses. it focuses more on the brain(speed) part of power than the strength part. No one seems to say that.

Precautions and disadvantages a guess, you need to take before commencing this type of training is that in order to acheive most results:
* Correct landing technique is essential
* No. of contacts must be low
and * it must be performed when the body is at its optimum level e.g after rest periods and not after heavy resistance training etc...
* little to no excercises available for the upper body.
* this one is a guess but i think that the stretch shortening cycle could be classified as a contra-indicated excercise and could damage the muscle by creating too much tension....maybe a snappage?

oh also... look up fartlek and resistance training at 15+reps from 3 sets at maybe 70-80% 1 RM is power done quickly is power as well...
or it is endurance?
can't rmember it was the first topic we did

Ok now we have an assessment, we have to chose 2 sports to do it on.

Overtraining>>any good resources anyone knows?

slalom skiers, or is it slalom? they go down the really bumpy hill... they require alot of plyomteris related power....

look in your text book and internet....
there are ozens of sites with really good HSC related PE info. it takes at most an hour....

disadvantage of plyometrics is that it places a lot of stress on the joints, therefore the average person cant go right into a plyometrics program. another sport that uses plyometrics is sprinting, probobly the most common sport for it. ployometrics cause the muscle to contract, and energy is released, cant remember what this was called, sorry.

and the king you said there is no exercise for upperbody, there are plyo pushups, which is a pushup with a clap in it.

oh yeah and it is important to be taught plyometric exercises by a quilifed coach, cause if done incorrectly, it can lead to so0me pretty bad injuries, muscle,ligament, tendon and even cartilige damage.

also if you are an endurance athlete, there is no use doing power, ployometric exercises, as it will just lead to a decrease in performance in aerobic capacity.

not nessicarly, just because last years was hard doesnt mean this years one will be hard.
