I was told that I should make an "overarching thesis" for English. Basically, whatever the question is I can use the overarching thesis as the argument or shape it into my argument. Is this a good idea to do because it will make finding related quotes for my related and prescribed texts much easier.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the term thesis generally means your overarching argument, or the point you are proving in all of your paragraphs. Basically what I'm saying is for every essay you should take the question, form your thesis and every paragraph/argument should be to strengthen and prove your thesis.
