Hey everyone,

Just a simple question, how long does it take for CFC's to reach the ozone layer. I heard that it takes 50 years, which explains the delay in the observable effects of ozone depletion from the 1970's-1980's, hence the implementation of the Montreal Protocol in 1989. However, some sources say it takes 2-5 years for CFC's to reach the ozone layer. So what exactly is correct?

Depends on the relative size of the CFCs. But I've never heard of a span of 50 years to reach it.
From sources, it takes ~4-10 years

I would imagine it would happen within a matter of days because of how the atmosphere works, 50 years refers to how long it stays in the atmosphere - the atmospheric lifetime of the CFCs can range from something like a few years to many decades.
