Hey...

for our paper 1 trial our essay wasnt counted in our assessment! something stupid to do with the assessment scheme... problem was, no one told us students that, but some found out! So some kids went into the exam not trying in the essay and spending time on reading and writing...
which means they had an advantage. :(

i actually did the not wise thing and spent 65min on the essay, got the top mark, but it doesnt matter does it, cos it was not frickin counted and my other two (relatively shocking) marks were...

see those who knew, a few heard a rumour before the exam and went down to the english staffroom, and the teacher had to tell em the truth when they asked...
i think, as soon as he had to open his mouth and tell some people it didnt count, he should of walked up to the exam room and told everyone!

the english teachers say.. anyone could of figured it out, you just had to work it out from adding up some columns on your assessment scheme, this sheet they gave out in our first lesson of term 3 last year...
DODGY!

grounds for appeal? i wish... guess i might just be overreacting tho cos i kicked arse in the essay and went shite in the other things.. and my "friend" who knew... got 14/15 for creative writing and had a poor essay. and of course. came first in the assessment... *grrrowl*
yeh .. thats my whinge

Definately grounds for appeal.

If it's not worth something, why make you do it. But more importantly, some students were given an unfair advantage. THAT is DEFINATELY grounds for appeal.

you go get those marks girl!

it depends on what exactly was on the sheet - if it clearly shows the percentage mark (or equivalent) that each section of the assessment is worth - thereby showing that the essay was worth zilch - then you have no grounds for appeal. if other students decided to check, that was their own initiative and the teacher in question was under no obligation to remind everyone (though it might've been nice if they had...). that said, i do sympathise with u. complain if u want, but i doubt they'll do anything - i mean, at my school, the teacher who set the 2U matsh paper gave out a paper before the trial exclusively to their class which contained exact questions and worked solutions that they had set for the trial (50/120 marks) and told them to do that paper...and nothing is being done about it!

our aos paper didn't count towards our assessment, and i mean the WHOLE thing!! we had to sit through it cos the teachers wanted to know how we were going, which is fair enough i suppose... but unlike you, jezzabelle, we all knew beforehand that this test wasn't counting. the mark is going on our report, but it won't be included in the assessment mark they send to the Board of Studies.
have a go anyway... you'll always be wondering whether you could have got it if you don't (if that even makes sense??!!)

p.s: i hardly think you're whinging - i'd be pretty annoyed too!
