i know how hard it is to get a job just after the hsc is finished because everyone is looking for jobs, so i was wondering if it would be a smart move to get a job around next holidays? so i have a job when i finish the hsc?

my biggest problem is that i don't want a job during the hsc, but i have to get one straight after.

You'd never get the job if you "officially" get the job during highschool and then don't start till after.

Just work through the HSC. Plenty of people do it and get good marks. And seeing as you're aiming to go to uni, you wouldn't be wanting to pause working during uni and then start during holdiays/after you finish uni would you?

Just condition yourself to balancing work, study & social life which would benefit you in the longer run during uni.

oh, no i mean work through hsc. i'm also thinking of moving to canberra next year for uni so it probably wouldn't be a long term thing, depending on my timetable and how often i came home.

no, but i went badly in my half yearlies so i really really really need to get good marks.

Around August companies start looking for Christmas casuals so I'd recommend looking for a job then.
Otherwise if you can find one now just work like 4-10 hours a week...then don't work during the hsc. Alot of people do that and manage fine

No, just no. The current financial crisis is AS bad as everyone is implying (in Australia at least). Some businesses are closing down, but this fluctuation happens all the time! Even when we had Howard and he was kicking ass for our country, businesses still went down.

The unemployment rate isn't even high compared to twenty years ago. Our economy is still doing fine.

I swear to God, half the retards that bitch about the financial crisis and 'recessions' don't even know what a recession really is. I work and study in the CBD in Brisbane, I always see casual/part time positions offered. Not to mention the number of ads on websites like CareerOne and Seek.

Cheap labour will always be sought out after.

We are still in a skills shortage. Honestly, why do you think the government allows so many foreign nationals here to work? Do you think the government would allow so many (predominately) Indian and Chinese here so easily for no particular reason at all? It's because we can't meet our own demand.

I'm going to finish my Business degree with my accounting major and walk into a job straight after university, even if this spooky recession is still around.

i agree with above, there is always going to be a supply of shithuse 'bottom feeder' jobs, particularly for out of high school kids. Just worry about it after hsc, sure chat them up now if you wish. but they can fire you/hire you quicker than anything.

I think a job is helpful during the HSC as it provides a break from study and helps you better manage your time. If you go to uni you will find most of us work a fair bit along with full time study and cope fine. In fact uni requires more discipline than the HSC and the workload is even more time contrained. The world should not end because of the HSC, I balanced study with concerts, work, social life etc and did not regret it. As if you will be studying say on a Thursday night (perfect night to work in retail) or a Friday night (good time to take a break and socialise). I know far too many people who feel as if all the sacrifices weren't worth it as they spent their whole time studying and it didnt make that much of a difference.

Just don't burn yourself out is the moral of the story and dont underestimate the positive impact of R&R on your studies.

Balance is the key.

you will only get a one chance in your entire life to do hsc but thats not the case with doing a job. is it ?

I would do this. I worked approx 3-5 hours a week from about June to November last year. Then I was able to pick up my hours MAJORLY.
