UNSW does not warrant that these distributions of grades are in any way representative of grades awarded for these courses in prior years or future years. Section 3.2.12 of UNSW's Assessment Policy states:

"3.2.12 Patterns of distribution for the current session and for previous sessions are available from the Registrar. In small classes, and in courses and programs with high entrance qualifications, an increased percentage of higher marks may occur. A similar shift in the distribution of marks typically occurs in later years of most degree programs. Course authorities and course convenors are advised not to pass or fail any given percentage of students, but should be prepared to give reasons for a distribution pattern that differs from that which is consistently found in the particular course."

It would seem that way - the figures should be correct to one decimal place.

I was only able to obtain the distributions of subjects that I had completed.

so are there significantly less distinctions/HD's for commerce, science, engineering etc?

The attached PDF sets out the grade distributions for all UNSW courses taken by law students in Session 2 of 2005.

For those courses that have two rows of statistics, I believe the top row is the distribution for all students, and the bottom row is the distribution for law students. If a particular course is not listed, it probably wasn't taken by any law students in that session.

You could try writing to Professor Robert King, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

But I wouldn't be surprised if he says no and asks you to submit a formal FOI application instead.

It really depends on who you ask... bureaucracies are riddled with inconsistencies... sometimes you get lucky.
