PBA cards in the USA (1 Viewer)

Has anyone here heard of them? Some of my US friends were telling me about them and I can't help but think omg real life get out of jail free cards!

Here's an explanation:

Its a card that is given by an officer, to whom he or she is close to, that is part of the Policeman's Benevolent Association. When pulled over for a traffic stop that person can discretely hand the officer the card with their credentials. If the driver is courteous, professional courtesy is given to the driver out of respect to whom issued the PBA card for minor infractions. However, this is not the case in all traffic stops, the officer does not need to accept or even acknowledge it. It is all up to the officers discretion. Bottom line is it is not a get out of jail card to flash around, if you have one be discrete when giving it to an officer and always be polite and courteous.

It's literally legitimizing corruption. I also found it funny that there are various levels of PBA cards depending on how close to the police officer you are!

Well the thing is, as you put it, it's legitimizing corruption. In other countries, such as India for example, what they do when they're pulled over is "I know X cop who is your senior" and the cops will let you go (most of the time) or you just give them some money (50-500 rupees usually, about 10 cents to a dollar - Aussie $) and they'll let you go in that case (also works if you say you know a Politician, even if they're just a mayor of a local council etc...).

Atleast that system is a little more recognized, althought it still shouldn't be there, just ruining the system.

I find it interesting that it's organized by the union. Unique way to attract funding I suppose.
