I dont necessarily listen to singers with voices that are so great they can cover a 5 octave scale. They just have SOMETHING that makes u wanna hear the song out and again...and again

Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole

Sinatra, had an amazing voice. He had a massive range. And honestly could make people laugh or cry. I think when you can evoke such emotions from people with a voice your outstanding. If you have real emotion in your music, and the audience can really feel it then I think you are successful.

Two such rock singers I think are Jim Morrison and Freddie Mercury. Mercury's mournful tones from Bohemian Rhaspody are things u can almost hear long after you've listenened to an album.

I'm also a big fan of James Taylor's and Cat Steven's voices. But for a massive range from opera to pop it's difficult to go past Sarah Brightman as an outstanding voice.
