Just stumbled upon this, seems to be a hidden gem tucked away in the later pages of the handbook...

Anyone taken up this unit? Any reason why a first year with no previous experience of Philopsophy shouldn't take it?

I'm almost sold...

I can think of one reason. Because Nick Smith was the second worst first year Philosophy lecturer I had.

Other than that, can't see why not.

Surprisingly, no. I found David Macarthur to be the worst, but maybe that was because he was teaching aesthetics (which I despise)

Ah ok. I had Rick Benitez for that.

Best lecturer of all time: David Braddon-Mitchell

Yes!!! Definatley! I loved DBM so much, he made Philosophy worthwhile and interesting. I would have continued with that if I was doing an Arts degree.

Tim Rayner wasn't too bad - I had him for Political Philosophy (the Society component of PHIL 1010) and he was good enough to make me stay on with it.

Extremely articulate person, if you can keep up with what he's saying

DBM is a legend. Like Susan, I probably would have done some kind of metaphysics unit if my degree allowed it.
