In a way.
Pretty much follows the same arc with every groundbreaking discovery.

Guy proposes theory.
Everyone else calls the guy nuts, and laughs him off.
Experiment shows that guy is right.
Insert nobel prize.

Btw, what did everyone write for the experiments question? Just curious to see what people picked.

I wrote about Thomson's cathode ray experiment -> Shows that electrons are subatomic and fundamental.

I also wrote about the SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator) in 1969 which verified the existence of quarks. Showed that Murray Gellmann's hypothesis on quarks is not simply a useful way to break matter particles down into constituents, yet that quarks are actually real, physical, fundamental particles.
I did JJ thomson's cathode ray experiment and Chardwick's alpha particle bombardment experiment

yep. dw though psmao I'm sure a lot of the state would've made that mistake!
In saying that the syllabus doesn't directly refer to an experiment they ask for so the question may be marked nicely and accept Chadwick. Either way I get 5/5 lol

You should should watch a tv series called 'Genius'. Un-Ironically it's on the life of Einstein but it's not a boring documentary.
It goes through his uni years how he met Mileva and his pursuit in proving General relativity before the mathematicians do, etc etc.

It's really a great drama packed series that isn't a documentary btw.

Actually idk if it's on Netflix, I watched it on a website called vioozhd.org. It's like one of those torrent sites but without any torrenting, i.e. you don't need to download anything. I take no responsibility :p

Here's one of my favourite scenes from the series

Among other great movies I can recommend which are math/science

21-based on a math genius who uses his ability to win big in casinos

The man who knew infinity- based on the work of Ramanugan.

The theory of everything- based on Stephan hawking (this movie was amazing)

x+y - although not as great but based on this kids journey through the International Math Olympiad representing the UK

I’ve never delved into the world of competition math, might start doing so in the holidays if I feel motivated enough. I defs wanna try the Putnam in undergrad though (even thought the average score in it is 1% :p)

It's actually a great movie, also it goes through Ramanugans struggles with getting people to believe his work because he had no proofs. It shows his struggle to learn how to prove his formulae etc. Eventually most turned out to be correct lol.

Good luck with that lol. It's much harder than the Olympiads and most people who take it are olympians from MIT Harvard etc. Yet the average score is 1%
