If you just want to socialise then The Great Northern is the best place to be. If you want to dance then got to Frostbites. Surf City is probably one of the worst:).

Frosties is good, but its REALLY small and gets REALLY crowded and hot, and to move anywhere you pretty much have to rub up against everyone to do so. (oh and I think their frozen drinks are about $6 each [well last time i was there])
The Brewery is good, but it tends to be older people
Surf City is like all my high school discos relived with added pashing and groping and alcohol
Great Northern is awesome (esp when you fall down the internal stairs and dont get kicked out :p)
The Merc is ok, if you like techno
I havent been to Fannies, some say its awesome, others say it sucks majorly.

Well I have never had anything spilt on me in Frostbites from what I can remember:). I think the frozen drinks range from about $5.50 to $8 or something:p).

Yeah, I will agree that Frostbites gets pretty hot, even if you aren't dancing:).

customs house - one of my favourites. more of a big pub atmosphere. cheap drinks, laid back music, much more laid back crowd
great northern - one of the best. gets pretty packed but its always a good crowd AND they have bundy draught on tap for $4 a schooner. you cant argue with that
surf city - sweat city
mercury - good if you want to take copious amounts of drugs and dance all night next to ugly maco's and feral girls...however its recently been bought out by the GN and is supposedly changing its image
the grand - i dont know about the grand. its like all the ugly people who werent allowed into the other clubs congregate here to hook up with each other, its pretty wrong. but it has $2.50 schooners, and thats got to be a good thing
frostys/crown and anchor - good every now and then, i dont like to go there too much though cos its gets way crowded
the lucky country - fucking seedy, but they have $2 shots
finnegans - meh
brewery - older crowd, usually sucks. nice view though
king st hotel - only new, but its sort of taking over fannys as the place to go after the GN closes. i personally dont like it, but lots of people do
ducks nuts - open till 6am, always messy
fannys - can be ok but the music is always shit and theres so many tossers there. plus my ex works there, so ive sworn never to step foot in it again

and thats about the lot of them in the inner city
