In preparation for next week's english trials, i have produced an essay basing my own ideas and the ideas of a sample essay from a textbook about 50/50 rewording phrases here and there.
Any problem?

Yes. You just reworded stuff. That doesn't make it your own work. It's still plagiarism.

A sample essay from a textbook is risky though. Especially in the actual HSC exams.

My teacher hasnt said much about my essay regarding plagiarism but i guess i'll try have more of my ideas in it before hsc

A good measure to go by is if you have to ask, it's probably plagiarism.

Ideas is ok, as long as you express them in your own way. I think its still technically plagiarism but it's really no different than being inspired by a class room discussion. If you are copying and pasting or rewritting something out thats when it becomes dodgy, regardless of how much you chsnge it it's still not really your own.

Understandable. Only reason why i ask this is because i find it extremely difficult to just make my own essay and usually i relate my essay to responses other students have made and have my teacher guide me every now and then.

Sounds like plagiarising to me... You may not get caught, but if you do, the consequences are very severe.

I think you should re-word it to a point where its look like your own work.
