What's a solid example for a plant's response to infection? (fungal or viral?)
Like with Tobacco Mosaic Virus for instance, how does the tobacco plant really respond to the virus (its defences)?

For fungal pathogens:
waratah - dieback caused by phytophthora cinnamoni
symptoms: yellow leaves, wilting, blackening of stem and roots

• secretes antifungal enzymes making an inhospitable environment for the fungus
• Causes cell death of infected leaves or stems
• strengthening of cell wall to prevent further penetration of fungi

For viral pathogens:
banana - banana bunchy top virus spread by vector transmission from aphids
symptoms: stunted leaf growth, reduced fruit production

• technique called RNA silencing - the plant recognises the viruses genetic material and copies it so that other cells can respond to it and prevent replication
