Hi, i need help there are a few questions i got wrong and i have no idea how i to get the correct answer:

Im studying the trial 2007 paper:


Question: How many fifths in 8?
Answer: I put down 40 but its defintely wrong

A straight line was created using the following table of values:

X -2 0 2 4
Y 8 4 0 4

The answer is X-Intercept = 2 , Y-Intercept = 4

I dont have a clue how they got this?

The following is a table of cumulative frequency distribution of a set of scores:

Score: Cumulative Frequency
3 6
4 11
5 15
6 18

Which of these scores has the highest relative frequency?
A)3 B)4 C)5 D)6

My answer was D)6

but it was wrong the correct answer was A)3 how could this be?

What is the average weekly number of cars sold in this car yard in this period?
A)5 B)6 C)16 D)18

5x8= 40

Checking:
40 x 1/5 =40/5 = 8

Table is wrong. Rather than a straight line, you'd get a modulus because the line goes down, but then goes up again. (I think).



For the statistics, I can't help you. i've forgotten how to do frequency type questions :eek:

okay so for the first answer it is 40 right?? then why did i get it wrong in my trials??

I seriously rofl at Year 10 SC maths.
Senior Year maths is quite different to SC maths :uhhuh:

There are 5 fifths in 1. Therefore, there would be 5 x 8 fifths in 8. The answer is 40, so you're right.

X-intercept is basically the number you get when y=0. Same for y-intercept, it's the number you get when x=0. If you plot the points on the number graph, you'll see it much better.

We don't want cumulative frequency, we just want the frequency. So after finding that out, you get:

3 occurs 6 times
4 occurs 5 times
5 occurs 4 times
6 occurs 3 times

Now, to find the highest relative frequency, it is a simple matter of simply looking at which number has the highest frequency.

For this, you just look at the class centres and disregard the class. Then simply use your calculator, input the numbers and the freuqency (use statistics mode) then ask the calculator for the mean.

So input:

10 - 6 times
15 - 7 times
20 - 4 times
25 - 3 times

Then ask for the mean.
