Evaluate the effectiveness of the law in addressing problems faced by families in Australia today.

1000 words? pfft, just do it on your general knowledge copy a few hundred words from you textbook, then "evaulate it" i.e. make up better laws and give reasons why. Oh and throw in a few articles as well.

You should expect such a broad question as these are typically designed to lure the student into writing everything they know about the family law topic - avoid doing this. Choose 3 or 4 issues (in your case problems) relating to family law such as divorce, domestic violence etc. then follow the typical legal studies essay outlines:

Some topic areas may include:

-Surrogacy
-Adoption
-Domestic Violence (for all the female markers )
- Homosexuality
-Aboriginals?

The above is quite a good mix in terms of diversity. You are showing the marker you understand that the contempoary family unit does not only consist of the traditional mother, father and child structure, but rather a rich and diverse range of different layers.
