A certain threshold is needed to be reached in order to change the permeability of neurones to K ions. If this threshold (-75mV- -55mV) is not reached the action potential cannot occur. An action potential is the depolarisation of the inside of the neurone due to invasion of K ions. When this depolarisation occurs K ions are pushed out of the cell causing the release of a neurotransmitter which carries the impulse across the synapse to the dendrites of the next neurone.

Analyse the impact of high mutation rates for the influenza virus and the implications for human health.
The high mutation rate of the influenza virus is a product of natural selection and ensures that many individuals get sick from this disease every year causing a massive impact.
* with each strain a different vaccine must be developed to conquer the disease which is an expensive and lengthy process. In this time period many individuals contract the disease causing many deaths and the usage of hospital resources.
*this has major impacts economically and also in regards to human health as it will increase the amount of deaths and sickness per year.
