What Modern History (and Ancient History too!) text books do you use and / or which ones would you recommend? Thanks

I don't recommend any textbook really, if you need a study guide, maybe Macquarie but that's it.

Get the HTA Modern History Study Guide - quite helpful when revising, but don't solely rely on it (or any study guide). Your school should provide text books though.

We used antiquity for ancient, its not specifically focused at the syllabus but does have some good sources. I wouldn't really recommend it though.

For Modern the HTA study guide is a good source, incredibly indepth for a summary guide.

For Ancient, same deal the HTA study guide is another brilliant source. Ken Webb has also published some topic guides, I know he's done Pompeii and Herculaneum, Minoans and Sparta - not too sure on anything else.

Don't worry too much about having a textbook. Your teachers are bound to give you photocopies equal to that of 5 textbooks. >.> So much paper.

As suggested, don't rely on textbooks solely. External reading is the best way to go for modern.
