so, for advanced math, my internal marks were:

Task 1 - 21/35
Task 2 - 42/50 (was an assignment tho)
Task 3 - 7/35

And for my hsc exam I think I got like 25/100 .
Anywho what band do you think I’ll get. I have conditional early entry and I’m kinda worried.

Daily Telegraph have similar headlines.

Do you still have other HSC exams in the coming days? Most conditional early entry are based on overall ATAR, so if you still have exams in other HSC subjects to go, just focus on them. There’s absolutely no point speculating on what marks you may have achieved on a past event if you can directly influence your overall mark by focusing on exams yet to come.

thanks for the reply. Thing is I’m basing what mark I woulda have got from the answers of the exam. And also my conditional early entry is solely dependent on my math result. I need a band 2 or higher for math. Do you think I would have gotten atleast a band 2?

According to NESA:

Band 1 indicates that a student has not met enough of the course outcomes for a report to be made. Band 1 includes marks ranging from 0 to 49.

Further, the performance descriptor for Advanced Maths describes the requirements for Band 2 as:

• Demonstrates limited knowledge and skills appropriate to the course
• Solves simple familiar problems with limited accuracy
• Uses some mathematical language, notation, diagrams and graphs

So, the question is, has your performance sufficiently met the descriptors for Band 2 or above, are have you not met enough of the outcomes for a report to be made?

You achieved over 50% in two of three internal tests, which will help so long as your school's internal assessments were not substantially below the state average. Your HSC exam performance should match at least some Band 2 descriptors and so I would guess that it should be possible to make a report.

The key consideration at this point, however, is not to worry about the past but focus on the future - like upcoming exams - and leave worrying about what to do if your performance is insufficient to take up your early offer for if that situation eventuates. If you have a basis for an application for special consideration, that is also worth considering.

Aligning is about making internal results match to external results. So, suppose a school had its Advanced Maths cohort with an average internal mark of 90% because they asked questions like "Solve for x: x + 2 = 3" and so artificially inflated the internal marks. Performance of the cohort on the external HSC exam would place the school's cohort relative to the entire candidature, and this is then used to align the internal results to what they "should" be according to the performance relative to the candidature., and the aligned internal results would be lower than the raw values submitted by the school. Similarly, if a school's cohort had internals averaging 60 but those students averaged 80 in the externals, the alignment process would scale up the internal assessment scores for that school (but won't alter the order reported by the school).

Yes, you are right. Looking at the NESA description of Understanding Results, what I have described is moderating rather than aligning to the standards / performance bands.

Yes this one was alignment - depending on the difficulty of the exam, NESA will adjust performance band cutoffs to be representative of the band outcomes as quoted above. For instance, this year's Maths Advanced was rather difficult so in all likelihood the band 2 cutoff will be well below 50 - a lot of those questions in the latter part of the exam were quite far above "Solves simple familiar problems with limited accuracy", so wouldn't be surprised if we get a very low band 2 cutoff this year.

I know solid extension kids who couldn't answer some of those questions - band 1 is meant to reflect those who put in zero effort/complete lack of understanding so like even for those who did "really badly", I wouldn't be overly worried.
