They do. Not in the form of a government, but plenty of people believe it as a combination of the philosophies of socialism and anarchism.

why don't they co-exist is what I was asking

why in the history of Socialist societies (and I mean the hardcore proletarian revolution type shit) has there never been a case where they shake free the shackles and bondage of the state and operate in complete social cohesion?

"Socialist" states in history have consistently disintegrated into a simple fascist state. China, the USSR, North Korea etc. have all done this. It gets to the point where it is difficult to actually label any historical state as truly socialist. Mostly they just become fascist. They tend to disregard their original socialist principles they were founded on and become corrupt and authoritarian.

Socialism doesn't work in modern society because it relies on everyone agreeing on the idea of socialism. It requires people to work together with a unified goal. If even a tiny minority disagree, the whole system goes kaput. This is why true socialism has always failed, and will continue to fail.

I think I should have just voted for straight anarchist.

But if that is your reasoning for socialism not being able to exist, and thereby your reason for disavowing it, wouldn't the same apply to anarchism?

Pretty much, yes. I've explained my reasoning on the other thread.

My reasons for disavowing socialism have nothing to do with it's practicality. It's more because the concept doesn't appeal to me. It's difficult to value equality and freedom at the same time, and take a stance on socialism like this. So I don't really have an opinion on socialism, or a free-market.
