At their child's school? Of course, it makes no sense that they shouldn't be allowed within the bounds of the same school..

Yes. Had 3 different cases in our grade. Maths teacher had a son in our grade. A dual English/Maths teacher had a son in our grade. A music teacher had a brother in our grade. Nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, of course, why should it affect which school their child attends?

I used to lvie in a town with 2000 people, so of course their kids were going to attend the same school, no choice.

whats not fair is where the teacher/parent helps their child with their assignment, which they will more than likely know how to ace.

for example, a girl at my school had both her parents there. one was an english teacher, the other was a science teacher (specialising in earth + environmental science)

guess what her best two subjects were. also, her third best subject was chemistry iirc.

Usually yes, although it is always plausible for a certain bias (be it deliberate or inadvertent) to occur.
So i say YES, as long as the parents are not the child's teachers.

That's often impossible at smaller schools. We only had one language teacher, one art teacher, only one or two English teachers. We mixed with the other grades as it was.

hmm well imo with what goes on at my school, i don't think it's fair.. but maybe it's different at other schools .

i don't really have a problem with it, the only thing that would bother me if there was a parent who taught the same grade as the child.

yeah that's the case at my school .. and the student is extremely loud and disruptive but our teachers just let it slide.

haha once again, at my school the student gets marked so highly and last year ended up getting dux , even though his standard of work doesn't compare to other students' work .. it's so rigged . personally i think the teachers at my school all suck up to this student just because of his mum .
edit: but i guess this could vary across other schools so i'm not saying it's the same at every school .

When I was at school, my father was a teacher there. He also taught me throughout Years 7-8, and 10-12.

But, never was he unfair to other students.

Everyone got what they deserved and I got what I deserved. And in fact, my dad used to tell me that he's going to be more teacher-like to me in class than any of the other students.

Most students in my class had a friendly relationship with him, though. =]

As many have suggested I think it's acceptable as long as the student isn't unfairly advantaged/disadvantaged because of their parent teacher. I reckon it's best they're not in their class but it depends because if the parent is the best teacher for that subject and doesn't act biassed then why not.

Also, I think it's convenient esp. in primary school if the kid can get picked up by their parent and eventually we'll graduate whereas the teacher is more likely to stay for quite a while.
