I said they used a mould to get the desired shape. Just to be thorough.

Couldn't you have done it from Fractional Distillation of Crude Oil?

I did fractional distillation because crude oil is a natural raw material, and they didn't really specify anything apart from that.

Phew yeh it is a raw material.
Should of thought of cellulose aswell damn..
Hopefully at least 5/6.
I spoke about initiation propogation and termination and LDPE use of peroxide catalyst under High Temperatures and High Pressure. Actually spoke about HDPE aswell.. wasnt sure which one..

I had this question wrapped up, I did polyethylene bottle and I had studied this really well. I'm sure I got 6/6.

Did you answer it by saying:

1. Crude oil cracked to get ethene
2. Ethene undergoes substitution with chlorine gas
3. Chloroethene undergoes addition polymerization to form PVC
4. PVC heated and molded to pipe shape
yeah i mentioned that too :D

This question was beautiful.

This is what I did:

1. Fractional distillation of petroleum
2. Cracking of a hydrocarbon to form ethene (equation)
3. Photosynthesis to produce glucose (equation)
4. Fermentation of glucose for ethanol (equation)
5. Dehydration of ethanol to form ethene (equation)
6. Polymerisation to form high density polyethene using Zeiger catalyst
7. Equation for polymerisation of ethene and diagram of HDPE with explanation of properties to explain why it is useful as a bottle

I loved this question. Absolutely loved it. And all of this fit into the space provided. :sun:

i started from sugar cane crops being harvested - glucose - ethanol - ethylene - initiation/activation/propagation/termination - Production of LDPE - bottle

For every single question i had to write over the space provided lines, was never able to fit in the answer for longer response questions.

FUck me until i am dead

I used ethene from crude oil, because crude oil is a natural raw resource. Cellulose is correct but i think some people may have taken natural as to mean renewable as well, which cellulose is, but im pretty sure it just meant a material that is not synthetic, and crude oil isnt.

Talked about ethene from fractional distillation and catalytic cracking giving equations. Talked about polymerisation using Zeiger process to form HDPE. Pretty sure HDPE is acceptable because LDPE is used to make cling wrap but it probably can be easily used to make drink bottles like pump bottles, but you can buy hard plastic bottles that would be made from HDPE, so both are probably correct.

Talked about moulding of plastic to be thorough.

i did it for the poly ethylene bottle

the question said somethin like
describe how it IS INDUSTRIALLY PRODUCED i think
IS- at the moment not how it can but how it actually is
INDUSTRIALLY PRODUCED - its produce from petrol coz the production from cellulose is not feasible or else we wouldnt be studyinda whole effn cellulose topic

nd i reseached nd it says petrol is a natural resource

please comment on this

:)

petrol is a natural resource. As i said before, i think people were confusing natural and renewable.

well since it says how it is industrially produced does dat mean dat cellulose would be wrong????

It's not wrong in the normal sense because cellulose is a natural resource and it can be used to industrially produce plastics similar to those made from polyethylene, but it depends upon how strict the marking criteria is for the question. I think if you used cellulose you will probably still get marks.
