consider the polynomial P(x)=3x^2+3x+a

if x-2 is a factor of P(x), what is the value of a?

(A) -30
(B) -18
(C) 18

Because we know x-2 is a factor, we know that P(2)=0
So 3(2)^2+3(2)+a=0
Therefore a=-18

since x-2 is a factor of P(x), then by the factor theorem, P(2) = 0, use that to solve for a.
