we just had ours - it was something like;

discuss the effect of globalisation on economic growth, development, quality of life and distribution of income and wealth on a country other than australia.

that's a very common question to ask but we've had so much practice on that i dont think it will appear in our exam. any more suggestions? most past papers focus on australia in the global economy rather than globalisation so not sure.

i came across this essay question:

"evaluate the reasons for international protectionisht policies and their impact on the australian economy and quality of life."

how do i go about answering that? how do u explain that international policies affect us domestically??

off the top of my head....

*discuss the effects of protectionist policies on the global economy

*analyse the impact of globalisation on the level of development within the global economy

*(case study essay)

*analyse the impact of the bop on the australian economy

*analyse the relationship between the TOT and the bop

*analyse the impact of changes in the global economy on australia's current account and net foreign debt

*analyse the impact of globalisation on the economic performance of the australian economy

if there are any more i can think of ill post them up :)

a couple more

*analyse the relationship between structural change and international competitiveness in the australian economy

*analyse the impact of movements in the exchange rate on the australian economy

*evaluate australia's policies regarding free trade and protection (you wouldnt get this in an exam, but you will definitely be able to use the info in it in other essays)

this structure could help if the question is something like 'analyse/evaluate/explain/discuss the reasons for differing levels of development within the global economy'

(i ripped this off a handout i got at school, but nevertheless it is still really helpful :) )

intro: classified different economies (industrialised, developing, NIC), defo globalisation etc etc

1. there are both domestic and global factors that contribute to inequality

2. DOMESTIC (factors of production and institutional factors)

2a factors of production (land - use middle east countries as example becoz of their oil)

2b factors of production (labour - use singapore as an example...they have reformed their education system to improve the workforce)

2c factors of production (capital/investment - access to investment, and thus capital, will impact on a nation's ability to achieve development e.g. south korea has gross capital formation of 29% GDP)

2d factors of production (entrepreneurial - in poland, they have been influenced by western european values, and as such, they have changed their socialist ideals)

3a institutional factors (political institutions e.g. Russian officials are corrupt and as such international investors do not want to invest there)

3b institutional factors (govt response to globalisation e.g. ireland, asian tigers have embraced globalisation, which has led to phenomonal levels of human development)

4 GLOBAL FACTORS

4a (global trade system - high agricultural protection. prevents developing economies from gaining increases in trade)

4b (financial system - 75% of total fdi flows were received by US EU and Japan. poorest 49 received 2.6%)

4c (global aid and assistance - usually serves a political purpose when it is bilateral e.g. US promised turkey for foreign aid if they supported the war in iraq. however when distributed by the WB it is more effective)

5 conclusion

I don't know if this has already been said, but I had my half yearly today, and one of the extended response questions was "analyse the impact of globalisation on an economy other than Australia". There was another one, but I don't remember it, because we only had to answer one of the two...

Our question was 'Discuss the impacts of globalisation on an economy that you have studied in relation to it's economic development'

I had mine and I stuffed it cuz I didnt do well in my essay:
"Analyse the impact of globalisation on economic growth, quality of life and external stability on an economy other than Australia."

The teacher who marked it said we had 2 write at least 1 and half page on the definition of globalisation?! I never knew that, I only wrote one paragraph and went on about china.

Another thing I was wondering, what can you say about the external stability in the chinese economy?
