Hey everyone im new here... Im wanting to do my hsc at tafe next year and was wondering if these following subjects can help me achieve my goal of 80UAI and over.

General maths
General english
Software design
IPT
Business studies

Do you think the choice of subjects may hurt my mark abit due to scaling? And should i just be safe and do 2unit maths and advanced english 2 achieve 80UAI and over? Thanks i need some ideas..

You can get a UAI of 100 with any subjects, you just have to do very well in each of them. As for your goal of an 80 UAI, that is more than achievable with your subjects and a little effort. Good luck.

actually not tru.. since some subjects are capped. eg Standard english, im not sure waht the cap is but even if you get 100 raw you cannot get 100 alligned for that subject.

standard english and math will hurt your uai a bit but if you do well in them they wont affect you that much... however saying that... <1% get band 6 in standard english means chances are you wont be getting band 6. if you can get band 5 or think you can i suggest you move to advanced since that gives you a good chance at a better uai.

maths wise i think general is capped to (since its a 2u subject and to be able to compare with normal 2u math it has to be capped).

so you are selecting subjecs which will technically scale you down however if you still do well in them the scaling system wont affect you too much and 80+ uai is definately possible. now just go and work hard in those subjects .

(im not sure about sdd,ipt or business... if i remember correctly they scale slightly down but that can depend on the year how hard the test was etc)

there are capped subjects or else how do you differentiate between standard english and advanced english. both are 2u worht and if standard isnt capped then what advantage do you have in doing advanced..? none you could get 90s say in standard and then have it be really well or 90s in advanced and if it contributed the same there is no point doing a harder subject. same story for general maths it cant compare with 2u for course difficulty so its capped
