Powerplay is an everyday occurrence; it is universal to everyones life. The universal appeal of power affects all levels of human interaction and can be found in the home, workplace or political arena.

powerplay is simply the fight between 2 parties for a particular goal.

The Chocolate War - Robert Cormier

You could probably even try the movie/book Runaway Jury by John Grisham.

examples of powerplay are: pride and prejudice.
or look at simple examples like dr seusses the sneetches.
Hitlers mein kampf is a good one.
just look at things you alraedy know and you could probably twist them around to look like powerplay. The crucible is another one

Powerplay, for me, is a very abstract yet broad topic.
It is about individuals using various tactics in order to 'climb the ladder'- that's to say to manipulate others and stay in a high, if not top, position.

Then you have to go into various concepts of powerplay such as
* gender power (man vs woman)
* power vaccuum (what happens as power falls, think of Iraq)
* oratory techniques in gaining power (such as rhetorics, parallelism)

Some texts that are pretty well known in this subjects: Animal Farm (text, or animation), 1984, Wag the Dog (a satirical view)

Also have a read in newspaper, I am pretty sure there are lots of examples of Powerplay at this moment.
Also,
* First episode of Seachange
* The West Wing
* Richard III

Hope that helps!

you can seriously find powerplay in a lot of places if you know how to look
if there is tension in a scene in a movie.. look at the balance of power.. what level it's on (physical/threat and what sort of threat- eg. financial, physical, psychological, emotional etc/manipulation/emotional/psychological), where/what is the source of power? how is it being executed/responded to? what is the purpose?

for powerplay i used the movie gladiator! it was great!! because i aimed it at a particular angle which can be linked with julius caesar (given text)

also a painting by eugene delacroix "liberty leading the people"

if you check out all the texts, you will see that there is a theme of powerplay in a female struggle for power in all of the texts!
it was such an original angle and idea :)
