james an is shit btw..

pre uni homebush is pretty good.. for english (imaginative journey) when i went there.. i had great resources from the teacher (this built gay guy lol) @ the old building across homebush station.. whereas the new building is located futher down the road.. i tried business studies there.. which was total crap.

for maths i went to Harry's @ burwood.

For year 11, i did chem, phys and maths at preuni, and started english term 4 in year 11...

i found maths to be useless cos, it was like, as someone already said they give u extra work and not help u with skool work.... phys was good for year 11, chem wasn't that great cos the tutor didnt go thru the dot pts =\... maths..yeh as they give u extra work wasnt great, and the classes were toooo full! then in year 12, i cut it down to just chem.... cos the tutor was really good...

it heavily depends on what skool u go to and what type of tutoring u require... as for me i went to a state school, which wasn't as great... so i preferred private tutors... which was a great help... I mean if u go to selective, u mite have really good teachers at skool who go thru the dot points, where as my skool hardly had ne good teachers... but yeh ... the good bit about em was they were supportive during the stressful time of HSC.

ok, ive been at pre uni (head branch) since yr 8...and now ive finally finished the hsc this year =D! Having been there for so long, i can say that pre uni is helpful only if u intend to listen to wat the teacher has to say, do all your homework, and revise wat u have learnt as often as possible. But then again, if u are really motivated to do all that, then u dont really need tuition.

As far as i know, the teacher's for chemistry and maths are good! If u intend to study chem at pre uni, make sure u go to the class that Mr Seawright is teaching....if u intend to do 4u maths there, then make sure u get Terry Lee..as for phys, i think the only decent teacher is Brian Shadwick (the author of physics surfing series)....but shadwick is realli boring and is very lazy. For english, make sure u get Robert Wills! he will make english fun and easier to understand. Im not quite sure about 3u maths though cos i never actualli did 3u there...but i hear that Mr Neunan is quite good...

Hope that helps =D

I had Brian Shadwick for physics this term! He is pretty good!! But can be a bit boring sometimes lol. He taught me alot about exam tips not just for physics too. Yeah he wrote his own textbook too which is cool. :D

i go to pre uni head office, been going since i was in year 8. yr8-10 was a complete waste of time, or maybe it as my attitude, but if your willing to learn and listen in yr11 -12 then its pretty good
im currently attending:
3 unit maths: mr noonan is a good teacher, really breaks down everything in a simple and easy to undertsand way. He also gives out booklets which do give you more work to do, but isn't that the point of maths? to constantly practise different types of questions? The questions in the booklets are varied and taken from the top 5 textbooks on the market and at the end of each there are a range of challenge questions, and past hsc questions. He also teaches using powerpoint presentation and he's quite a funny character..
advanced eng: With Robert Wills (the gay guy) is good as he is a fanatastic explainer.. honest and truthful ( i.e. if he thinks your response is shit, hell tell you its shit) and he actually forces you to use your brain. he is a Bit gay at times tho and he can get a little off topic. and be wary boys, cos he tends to pick on the male types =P oh yeah and wenever he writes ont he board he contracts and releases his bum muscles LOL!!!

but honestly, at about $40 per lesson.. if your really struggling in these subjects, i suggest you invest in a good private tutor or drop down... i on the other hand, go because im extremely lazy..

my tutor for science in yr8 for james an was a dickhead. but on another random note in yr6 one of the teacher took our whole class to sega world as mostly everyone was leaving after the selective test.

I've also had Mr Noonan for maths at preuni. I found him quite good actually, he offered to help us with school work every class and explained things well. The booklets proved to be useful, as he had short excercises for each section, some challenge questions, and past hsc questions on each topic. He's useful if you aren't struggling in maths but just want to get ahead but can pick up new things fairly quickly.

i think pre-uni is totally lacking in credibility. They rung my house last night doing a "survey" asking whether or not my brother had made it into the selective schools. My brother has not even been to one of their lessons. The only reason they knew our details was that we registered him to one of their "trial" selective exams. However, he didn't end up going because he apparently had a stomach ache. anywho, beyond the point. And yes, he did get selected to attend a selective school in 2007.

I can't believe they were going to use him to advertise for their centres. Unprofessional practices.

It doesn't matter if they lack professional credibility or have shady practices to attract ppl to their centre...it's the teachers that matter ..and the teachers they have at homebush centre are excellent (the yr 11-12 ones anyway)...smitts & saurine(phy/chem), prescott(eng), noonan (maths), wills (eng), and this bio teacher who wrote the hsc syllabus...these are prob the best tutors you'll find in syd.

I left in Year 9 cause there were way too many people in the room. Nearly 30 and it was always squashy and too much noise as well.

I think you are somewhat confused as to how a tutoring college actually works.

1. Most colleges want their students to succeed and will endeavour to help them do so. One such way of determining whether or not the service you are offering is helpful is to determine how many people 'pass their exam' or 'receive a certain score' or meet some other criteria. The effectiveness of this method is arguable under different circumstances but at the very least, such data DOES give some indication of the value of the service provided. So, in terms of improving the service offered, it is necessary to find out how the student performs.

2. Tutoring colleges are businesses. There are very few colleges open that are currently operating on a loss. To maintain a business, you need revenue. Generally speaking, revenue is proportional to advertising. To advertise, those marks or data that you collected are somewhat important. Potential customers want to know how your past students performed. They don't want to enrol their child if 0 out of 50 kids didn't make it into the selective school. Having that data is advantageous both to the business and to future customers. (I'm not going into a discussion about whether or not the mark could be obtained by the student without the college - obviously this is true in some cases, untrue in other cases - it's not terribly measurable).

So keeping those two points in mind, it makes perfect logical sense, for this business, with whom your brother enrolled into a course with, to phone you up and ask you for your details.

The fact that you happen to be a rare case in which the student did not actually sit one of the exams (because he didn't turn up) is NOT likely to be stored on their computer system - particularly if you either: (i) didn't pay for the service, (ii) disenrolled and never attended again [It was hard to tell which context was more appropriate from your post].

In conclusion, I feel that your argument is spurious. You cannot draw the conclusion that you have from the facts you have stated. In other words, Pre-Uni may, or may not, be lacking in credibility, but your post does not lend support to either theory.

For anyone that bothered to read that, sorry for wall of text. :) I just couldn't help but comment. ;d

Some of the senior classes, particularly year 12 classes are quite packed (up to 30-40 students) as well.

During my primary school years at pre uni (4 to 6), there were like up to six classes for one year, that was awesome cause the classes were small however the shit people were split from the more intelligent ones so it was like class six to four were shitcunts however class 4 were sort of borderline and then you had the people who were in OC classes or those who were geniuses in class 3 to 1. I never made it past class 4 ..............so sad.
