Will most course decrease their cut off ATARs or increase them?
I reckon they should decrease it, for example, B Medical Science last year was 97, 2012 is now 95.10 at UNSW. Will it decrease in 2013?

It depends purely on the course, some courses will increase, some will decrease, some will stay the same.

They've tended to be relatively similar. All I know is that Pharmacy is rapidly dropping...
Damn Chemist Warehouse! I reckon Pharmacy is gonna be like 70. I picked it just for the lols.
Apparently the workload is heaps!

Maybe engo would be slightly higher because of consistently good job prospects. (also depending where you want to specialise)

But tbh this is all just speculation

I reckon it should go down due to international students are taking all of the Engo jobs. They have to decrease it, in order for us Aussies to have a "fair go"... but that's just my prediction.

BTW, this is about the mining engineering with Gina Rinehart

If more people are applying and there will be less places, the cut-off will be higher.

"Fair go" is a good concept, "Fair dinkum" is a bullshit concept. A bit off topic meh that's what u reminded me of.

Hey is MBBS at USYD, UNSW and UWS gonna stay high? What's gonna happen there?

It's not exactly from Chemist Warehouse, my sister did Pharmacy is it's due to an oversupply of graduating pharmacists and apparently UTS has opened a Pharmacy school as well.

I believe that the cut-off will stop at ~80 because honestly, from what my sister says, it is a highly difficult course where if someone can't achieve over 90 ATAR, they probably can't survive the course.

MBBS has consistently been one of the, if not the most popular course that students choose. This makes the cut-off consistently high but not only does it require a high ATAR but also a high UMAT score (except USYD which is 99.95 each year).

Do people usually do because their parents told them to do it, and therefore it is usually popular? (asian stereotype much)

Parents, that's possible but not necessarily. A lot of doctors love their job and have no regrets taking MBBS but there are some that don't and regret the amount of work they must do even for the pay they get.

Some are pushed by their parents and end up failing, some can push through MBBS even though they were forced. Bad parents, and I'll be bold enough to say this, any parent that forces their child to do a certain course is a bad parent.

Other factors such as prestige and greed due to the wage of a doctor should also be taken into account.

Basically the moral of the story is to do what you love best and therefore you will succeed in that particular field of study.

There is a good reason for why that occured. Previously universities were capped at the amount of offers they could give to applicants. This was removed last year meaning university places became uncapped, creating more places in courses which is why there was a drop in atar entry scores for a range of subjects.

So do you think the uncapping of last year will affect this year's ATAR cut-offs, I'm talking about all courses?

I doubt that they will drop much lower, and if they did, it would be nothing like the drops in atar seen across the board last year. If anything i'd say that atar entrance ranks will remain the same if not rise this year as the trend of increasing university applicants continues.

Especially for universities like Usyd and UNSW the atar entrance scores barely ever go down becuase demand for those universities is high.
