Not directly tested, but you still need to know your concepts to do the HSC.

Example

Mathematics - No basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division = no algebra = no calculus.

I've only done a few topics in the HSC course. But teachers and past students tell me that you should learn your basic skills.

World communicates

  • Wave model

  • Electromagnetic Spectrum

  • Snell's Law

  • Inverse Square Law

  • Wave equations

Electrical Energy in the Home

  • Circuit analysis which includes Ohm's Law

  • Magnetic fields

  • Electric fields

  • Power

Moving About

  • Newton's three laws

  • Work with vectors

  • Graphs

  • Kinetic energy

  • Momentum

  • Forces

Cosmic Engine

  • Kepler's Laws

I don't think this topic relates to anything in the core topics of the HSC. (Astrophysics is an exception.) I wouldn't totally ignore this topic though, it's quite interesting.

Don't forget your practical skills and problem solving skills. :)

Biology not really. Physics and chemistry - yes; you need to know how to do calculations and also the reliability, validity, accuracy and variables stuff in experiments.

I would also suggest no matter how much a topic may seem to be irrelevant, you should study all of it in depth. You do not want to be having regrets later on.

You need to know Yr 11 maths to do Yr 12 maths.
You need some concepts for Yr 11 Chem to know in Yr 12 as they are built on.
Physics I assume is teh same (some simple laws/formulas would carry on)

Rest of your subjects, no prelim content helpful for HSC.
