The texts are,

LIFE THE SCIENCE OF BIOLOGY 7E (PURVES) and
BIOLOGY AUSTRALIAN VERSION 7E (CAMPBELL).

BIOS1201 is targeted for those without any, or little biology knowledge. So, if you have done Biology in the HSC, you will find it fairly easy (similar material). As for the textbook, I would wait until your first lecture, to find out which one is recommended by the lecturer.

Labs - I don't know. Check with BEES. Lab kits - probably not, unless you are doing BIOS1101, I got by without having a dissection kit.

If you are looking for a textbook, I happen to be selling my BIOS1201 textbook, "Biology" 6th edition (Campbell) ISBN: 0-8053-6624-5. Give me a PM if you want to buy it or any other first year books - I also have Chemistry and Maths.

You don't really need the Life Science textbook.

Campbell is the best all-round Biology textbook. It is worth every cent.

If you have the course materials that you had to buy from the BEES office, it says you need a labcoat and dissection kit and there are two textbooks they have written down and you choose one of the two.
