I love my public school.

My first primary school was kinda lame, hated it - doesn't have a good reputation these days. When I got into O.C. I accepted straight away, was the best two years of my schooling.

Selective high school is pretty good. Not many annoying people now, but there were a few when it was Year 7. Guess it's like that for a lot of schools though? People get more mature = less retards

Our public school has a centre for the arts. Music, performing arts, etc... We have a hall just for performances with professional lights (which cost thousands) and cinema-like seats. Our school puts the money to use.

I'm not saying all private schools suck. Nor do all public schools rock. But I said that every person I know who has transferred from private to public agrees that the public system is better.

I'm not bullshitting about anything. I swear to God, that's the actual state of those schools. I could get you pictures, but one of them is in Perth and I'm not going all the way over there :)

In a general sense, I definitely prefer public schooling over private. Private seems like a waste of money. In the end, it's how you use the resources. Having 5 uniforms won't make you a doctor. Have 4 ovals won't make you an accountant. Have a pool won't make you a dentist. Your best resources are your teachers. It's up to the individual if they want to do well - not their parents bribing them with a poshy school which has however many billions of acres. If you love it so much, go to boarding school. They have better facilities, I guarantee it.
Oh, and did I mention that our public schools have tall gates for extra security? None of the mentioned private schools did.

And the last school I went to had a 24hour security guards, did your public school have that? Should I list more examples to support an argument that I claim not to be making? Should I? I can I promise but I'm not making that argument I swear.

There are lots of private schools around where i live, and yes, i go to one. i do have to pay 23 000 a year, but i think its worth it. I went to the public primary school and watched all my friends go off to the local public high school. They told me all about it, and I do think there is a difference in quality of the teachers, resources and environment.

I would send children to a private school, but not a private primary school, I think its really unnecessary. A few of my friends in my year went to the junior school, but its not worth the money.

However i know some private schools that really don’t do as well as expected, considering their prestige and cost, and public schools always out perform them. So i think you really have to pick carefully.

The only thing I don’t like about my school is the focus on religion – its Anglican, and the fact that they’re always asking for donations and contributions to building funds etc

I see what you are saying about all the superfluities, and i agree with you on this point.

Yet, you also sort of contradicted yourself by bragging about your "hall just for performances (that cost thousands.)" Isn't this also a waste of money and just as unessessary as the "4 ovals, 5 uniforms" etc of private schools that you seem to so vehemently label as "a waste of money"?

Good for you that your public school seems just as prestigious as some private institutions. However, just because "everyone you know" prefers he public school system, it doesn't mean its uniformly better.

THE CORRECT ANSWER TO THIS DEBATE: Both private and public schools have pros and cons. There are some sufficient public schools that out-perform their private-school counterparts. However, by the same token, many public schools will not meet the same standard as the private school system because they are government funded and their resources can thus be insufficient.

My schools offers a performing arts centre (with music rooms, a pro dance room w/ air con and a drama stage) instead of a pool, more uniforms, and 4 or however many ovals. With public schools, the fees aren't compulsory. The only compulsory payments are subject fees. We're very lucky that we don't have to pay for drama, dance, music, or entertainment and still be able to have those facilities. They're great and fun for everyone. I would totally be willing to pay more for them. But our school has a great treasurer (whoever it is) and they handle the funds superby. I couldn't be any more proud of my school. My primary school, too. I found these 2 public schools to be one of the best I've ever attended and I will definitely be sending my children to these because although they are public, their resources and facilities are excellent - not what you'd expect from a public school. Even all of the PE teachers who trasfer to our school are amazed by how many activities are available to students. Not your regular ball games - yoga, ice-skating, aerobics, kick-boxing, lacrosse, etc. I especially love our as-new kitchens and although our sewing machines aren't top of the line, they still get the job done.
Our library is fab with heaps of HSC help and resources - past papers, tapes, etc... You can book a room with a DVD player or go up to the mezzanine where you can study quietly. We have computers in almost every classroom, 3 or 4 computer rooms and of course, the ones in the library. The library also has rooms you can book to study as a group. They have air con or a fan.

I'm boasting that a public school can offer all of these fantastic things for no extra cost :)

Excuse my stupidity for saying that a centre with multiple uses replaces a pool, a second oval, or more uniforms. The other choices are hardly appealing.

Spend as much money on your kids as you want. If they end up as drop-outs or check out chicks, now that is a waste of money.
