I've finished first year at UNSW and have applied for an internal transfer. Am I able to also apply through UAC for a course at USYD just to hedge my bets? Is this allowed? Thanks!

There shouldn't be a problem. The internal transfers are administered by the universities, and UAC has nothing to do with them. If you put in both applications, it is easy enough to reject one and accept the other.
