I need ideas, what other units are you doing next year? (First year units)

Is there anything that may help us or should we pick units purely out of interest?

Everyone I know that did Psych said that PHIL137 Critical Thinking proved invaluable to their later studies. But hey, that's not first hand experience.

PHIL137 - Is basically a course on formal logic, invaluable for anything requiring logic and as antisheep said, a fair few psych students take it up, but also other humanities/argumentative based courses.

List off some of your interests, it'll be easier to suggest based on them :)

Pick based on interest. Especially if you are doing a Bachelor of Psych because the degree is so restricted by psych units in later years.

I did PHIL137 and CUL100 in my first semester, and am yet to complete two history units and CUL101 in my "second semester" which I am doing this year. (I took a year off uni for work)

I took ARTS100 (Contemporary Australian Arts) and I found it good (if you enjoy creative arts) - assignments were easy and you get to create an artwork, and there were only 2 hours of contact hour in total :).

My main interest is music but Macquarie doesn't look like the best place for that, I really enjoyed HSC biology but not sure how that would be at a university level - likewise with Physics.

I'll take another look through the handbook.

What kind of music/instruments are you into? Macquarie has a great contemporary music department - although I could understand if you're more into the classics.

8th Grade Piano but I play contemporary music too - however apparently there is not much performance at 100 level and comparisons were drawn in another thread to the 'theory' of Music 1 for MUS100 (I suppose the Aural component?), which I'd rather be free of :p. Perhaps I need to seek more info directly from the uni if they have changed something.

Doubt it, we don't have a dedicated Classical Piano teacher, most of the department caters for production and performance of non-classical instruments and pieces, as evidenced by our DJing, Virtual Studio Production and African Drumming courses.

ahhhh im confused.

do we need... 12 units.. or 14 units?

or can we just choose?

because of the undergraduate proposal form thing it says '14 crp' tick box or something.

im thinking of

psy104
stat170
hlth107
bbe100

for first semester

and for second

psy105
wst110
and other.. things?

I would think that a professional in this field would be more of a help than students that are studying/have studied psych..
