Hey everyone,

I'm gonna to be participating in a public speaking comp soon (dame enid lyons oratory competition). It's the female version of lawrence campbell, where you get 15 minutes to present an 8 min speech. I have no idea how to prep for this other than doing timed practice but I'm not sure what type of topics are usually discussed and well-received. Something more informational, or with humour and a broad message?

Also, does anyone know any good coaches or places for public speaking tuition? Private schools dominate this comp with students who have experienced coaches and rigorous training sessions.

Appreciate any help. Thanks

You could try asking any of your teachers (if you have a debating club, drama, some English teacher, dunno) if they know anyone who could help you. Teachers tend to have a lot of connections.
