why can't the lead-acid battery be stored in a discharged condition?

probably sleeping in

anyway i got the answer but for future reference, it is because:

the PbSO4 which coats electrodes after discharge disintegrates the electrodes. you can't store it in the discharged state.

even in the recharged state, automatic sulphation of the electrodes occur, so you have to recharge frequently anyway
