Question on Mathematics Extension 1 HSC Mark (1 Viewer)

Hi guys, just a quick question,
You know how if you take Mathematics Extension 1 as an accelerated course, you're given a mark out of 50 so say like 48. When it's counted towards your ATAR, it gets counted as 2 unit if done in conjunction with Extension 2, and gets converted to a mark out of 100, how does it get rounded? So for example would 48/50 be equivalent to 95/100, 96/100, or 97/100 and what factors do they use to determine this? Thanks!

Simple, so 48/50, to get a mark out of 100 it needs to be doubled i.e 96/100 and no it doesn't get rounded (I don't think so, but someone else can confirm).

MX1 and MX2 are both separate in terms of marks in the HSC, so you will see marks for both of them individually.

Nah bro, I think the member Drsoccerball got 97 in HSC Accelerated Mathematics, so anything is possible. He could of potentially even gotten 99 (which is true, there is a story behind it)...

I think xDM is actually referring to accelerated Mathematics Extension 1.

Oh woops, I think you missed the point of my question because I wrong Mathematics instead of Extension 1. If, as you say, 48/50 gets converted to 96/100, what possible values out of 50 would be able to get converted to 95/100, 97/100 or any odd mark for that matter?

I know but I think by that he meant Mathematics Extension 1, according to the original post (''if you take Mathematics Extension 1 as an accelerated course''). xDM is basically asking do they simply double your MX1 mark out of 50 if you do MX2 next year, as this would mean you cannot end up with odd numbered marks for MX1 out of 100.

Imo the sensible thing for BOSTEST to do next year (the year MX2 is done by the student) would be they treat your assessment mark and HSC mark from MX1 in the accelerated year as though it was 2 units, so that you CAN get odd numbered marks. However, I don't know if this is what they actually do (don't see why they wouldn't though).

In your accelerated year, your MX1 mark will be out of 50 for everything (exam, assessment, hsc)
If you subsequently complete MX2, your MX1 assessment and exam mark will be given again out of 100 (and it is possible to have odd number marks - it isn't simply just doubling). I assume these are the marks ultimately used for ATAR calculation.

However, the HSC mark seems to just be doubled i.e. the HSC mark is not recalculated based on assessment and exam, it's just doubled. So we got people who had marks like 47/50, 48/50, 48/50 then 93/100, 95/100, 96/100

Yes it IS just doubled. But you are not doubling whole marks. Your marks are recorded to at least one decimal place (it might be more). The unrounded mark gets doubled.

No, the ATAR is calculated on pre-aligned marks.

Basically OP, don't be worried about unfairly losing out by doing accelerated extension 1 because of marks conversion. As braintic clarified, it is pre-aligned marks being used by UAC (3u counting as 2 units if you subsequently do 4u), so whatever happens on HSC results shouldn't affect your ATAR.

Having said that, I did think a lot of the questions I struggled with in 3u were so much easier after completing 4u, and I felt like I could've gotten a higher 3umark had I not accelerated in it. Though overall the benefits (extra time in year 12, HSC experience, option to repeat anyways...) made it worthwhile.

Assessment: 46/50. Examination: 48/50. Final: 47/50

Upon entering Year 12 and enrolled for Ext 2 -
Assessment : 92/100. Examination: 95/100. Final: 94/100
