Geography is a hard subject, probably because of how broad the coarse is...

Anyone have any suggestions as to what the questions, particularly the essays, might be?

I reckon we will get one on ecosystems at risk, and probably something to do with management....

Any others?, put down your thoughts.....

Management was the 2006 question, so I don't think they'll do it again.

In the 2007 exam, BOS had a question on Case study of a country, so a lot of us assumed it won't come back in the 2008 exam. But BOS had the case study as short answer questions, so majority of us were off guard and consequently had to waffle a bit.

Ohhh please let it be Mega Cities, thats the easiest one. Its nature, character, spatial distribution or Challeneges faced by that country or the responses to the challeneges.

I hate! hate! Local case studies and then the regional centres one! i will die if it is that one.

I dont know about ecosystems, i hope its easy haha.
as for Tourism im guessing something to do with B.E.E.S.T.O.P

Ecosystems at risk will only ask for one ecosystem (I only know one in detail, but coudl go on about the otehr a bit if I needed) and will probably be on biophysical interactions.

For Economic activity, I'd love tourism (any question on it), but the qustion will proabbaly be on a local economic enterprise (gay).

Urban dynamics will proabably be megacities, althoguh could aos be a small town/suburb you have studied. Heck it may eve be megacities or a combination of questions/topics.

Just prepare for everthing guys. Massive cram later today for Geography and chemistry.

Well, for economic activity it is extemely likely there will be a question on....

nature, spatial pattern and future direction, but, they can ask the implications of these factors or what influences these factors but it will most certainly be those three in a question

And for world cities, mega cities and urban dynamics...

-Challenges of living in mega cities

-role of world cities eg dominance, dependance

-ecological sustainability of the urban dynamics influencing a city in the developed world or a question relating to a regional case study for example i am doing a local town influenced by suburbanisation

Ecosystems will most likely ask about biophysical interactions.

I am predicting 2nd essay to be on something like Urban dynamics...hasn't been in there for a few years from memory.

Economic activity cannot ask specifically on tourism, as it is an optional economic activity which can be taught. Our teacher taught us about viticulture (wine making). So it will most likely just ask about an economic activity at a local scale, and you use tourism as your activity...or in my case viticulture o_O.

Anyways, apart from essays, Geo is easy as pie. I don't like the fact that the essays make up 60%...this is Geo, not English.

35+ out of 40 for mc and short answer, 40/60 for essays...nice 75 raw..

That should align to band 5...I'd be happy with that.

Maybe I should start studying now...hmmm...

Lols, hence why I said from memory :p Well, I guess you can cross that off the list of expected Q's.

I just went through and quickly looked @ past paper questions from 2001 - 2007:

Section 3 structure (You should all know this by now :p):
Essay 1(Ecosystems @ risk)
Essay 2(Urban Places)
Essay 3(People & economic activity)

2001
1.human impacts on nature and change
2.urban dynamics
3.global change affects

2002
1.biophysical interactions
2.world cities
3.explain location and ecological dimensions

2003
1.importance of management and protection.
2.mega cities
3.nature, spatial patterns and future directions

2004
1.spatial patterns, human impacts & dimensions (only ONE example)
2.urban dynamics
3.environmental, social and economic impacts

2005
1.vulnerability and resilience
2.world cities and urban centres
3.environmental constraints and human impacts affect nature

2006
1. traditional and contemporary management
2.contrast world cities & mega cities
3.nature, spatial pattern & ecological dimensions

2007
1.Impacts & responses of environmental change
2.urban dynamics
3.nature and spatial patterns...future directions
-------

Essay 1:
I would adivse that you study both of your ecosystems, not just one...there was only one year where ONE was specifically requested for essay 1.

2001 is similar to 2004 and 2007.
2003 is similar to 2006.

--
Essay 2:
Again, 2001 is similar to 2004 and 2007
2002 similar to 2005

--
Essay 3:
2003 very similar to 2007...slightly similar to 2006 also
---------

Any thoughts? I think any questions asked last year can be safely crossed off...looks like same topics arn't really asked more then one year in a row.

I feel stupid for askin, even after getting band 6 for geo in school certificate, but can someone post all the definitions of these:

- Nature:
- Ecological Dimension:
- Spatial Dimension:
- List of most popular urban dynamics and definitons
- Traditional management techniques:
- Contemporary management techniques:

Would be great :) Thanks!
