Hey guys;

I have a titration prac coming up next week; I was just wondering if any one have every than this practical or knows what things could come up in the practical.

I have some questions that I can't understand? any help would be appreciation and my thanks goes to everyone!

1. How pecise are the calibration markins on a burrete?

2. Before starting a titration we pour the solution past the 0.00ml mark of the burrette why is this done?

3. Which solution goes into the conical flask?

Could you please go in detial, I tried and read everywhere but couldn't find any answers to these questions?

What else could they ask you to find?

Thanks,

Thanks,
1. Usually 1mL, but to be sure look at 2 of the written readings on the burette, say 1mL and 2mL, count the amount of lines between them (not including them), if there are 5 lines, then each line is 2mL, if there are 10 then each is 1mL etc.

2. I have not heard of this practise, when starting actual titration you should always have the reading be at a readable level, i.e. not above 0.
For example you can start titrating at 0.6mL, you just need to subtract this from your final reading after titration to get the change in chemical of the burette.
Presumably, one could pour solution past 0.00mL, then just pour solution out until it hits 0.00mL in order to clear out air bubbles at the bottom of the burette which can disturb accuracy.

3. We put the solution with the unknown concentration into the burette.

This is because we are using the known standard in the burette. And we are measuring how much it takes to neutralise say 20mL of the unknown solution.
Then mole calculations are done to find the concentration.

Thanks, Sy123

Lol, I really have to ace this practical it is 25% and then I have 30% Trails, I am currently ranking 7/16, do you think I can still get a band 6 if I ace my these exams and smash my HSC.

There is no reason why it can't happen, just try hard for the trials since they can really change a lot in terms of ranking
