So I am guessing that is sarcastic but do you just mean in creative? Is it equally overused if we look at some element critically?

And what would you say counts as teen angst????

Stick away from things like teen depression/suicide/pregnancy/etc because they're often issues not dealt with appropriate sensitivity or insight.

If you wanted to turn it into a critical work, you could perhaps look at how teen angst has been explored in novels over the last 150 years or so, and whether the social/political context makes an impact on that. Maybe some Bronte, something from WWIish era, Diary of Anne Frank, something from the 70s, something current.

one of my discarded ideas was the use/place of the Yarn in Australian Story-telling as a distinctly Australian thing and trying to modernise it for the current Australian culture. I ended up discarding this idea because it felt a bit too specific and I couldn't do what I wanted with it.

another was writing from the perspective of a Vietnam War soldier on leave in Aus for 10 days - dealing with things like ptsd, but also knowing he has to go back to war at some point. I wrote up a few scenes dealing with issues like being on leave in your home country, but the country not being supportive of the war which has a huge psychological impact, especially when prior to that, the conception was that the homefront supports the war effort (think WWI and WWII). I ended up moving onto a different idea because of a few personal experiences that convinced me I had a different story to tell, but after all the research I've done, I'm keen to go back to this story at some point.

I know at the study days, they often say pick your concept and the form to best suit it.

Personally, I thinkit's best to pick a form you can pull off first and an appropriate idea for it.

Write down anything you're interested in, anything at all, highlight the main ones that stick out to you, short list them, they may even merge to form your major work.

Orrr as my MW, it actually came to me in a dream somewhat influenced by watching vaguely related Youtube video the day before. Wrote the proposal like day before, or 2 days before 20/20 w00t w00t

Okay. Thanks. That actually makes a lot of sense I wanted to do a critical response about teen conformity... So maybe I could do a similar thing, compare the contexts therefore making my point about contemporary literature? Do you think that would work?

What form? Creative? Critical?
What genre? Fantasy? Sci-fi? Romantic? Historical? Horror? Comedy? etc.
What are your favourite texts? (I did a mind map of this when I was starting). What do they have in common? Why do you love them?
What sort of things in real-life interest you?
What are some of your most poignant memories? Can you adapt any of these?

I think that sounds great, but at the end of the day, you should speak to your teacher about it, rather than just little old me on the internet It's something you're interested in so just go for it and start researching!
