Recommendation for good books? (1 Viewer)

Hey, I want to start reading novels again but dont know where to start.

umm I like good fantasy books such as Magican by Raymond E. Feist.

Nothing too serious, just for fun.

So any recommendations?

Robinson Crusoe (Idk about the spelling) But that's a classic, otherwise Frankenstien, great expectations and les miserables are all pretty decent books.

You did not just recommend Robinson Crusoe. That writing is so tedious compared to modern day prose. I feel asleep halfway and gave up after half of the book. It was that bad.

Frankenstein is alright, but you should read books that your going to do next year. I.e. frankenstein. Check with your teacher.

lets get started.

i would recommend george martin's a song of ice and fire, and steven erikson's tales of the malazan, but they're both quite long and intricate so they may not be what you're after.

brandon sanderson's standalone "elantris" is very good, better than magician imo and its quite short comparatively.

robin hobb writes trilogies, 4 so far, all of which are very good, may be worth a look.

neil gaiman's standalone "American Gods" is very good, but its not traditional fantasy so to speak, its set in a contemporary world and deals more with the fantastic rather than fantasy.

hmm. fantasy is generally moving into longer series, and those that buck these trend are more new-wierd postmodern stuff which i suspect you're not really after.

Ok, well, I will make some "less serious" suggestions, but really, a good book is generally (not the word there) serious, so the characters are a lot more developed and the premise is unprecendented.

the eragon series is good too, though your hand starts hurting if u hold the book upright for long periods of time

i havent read the book of lies

the amulet of samarkand is part of the bartimaeus trilogy, the 2nd and third books are the golems eye and ptolemy's gate. i recommend them too, they are really good

i also suggest the quickening series: myrren's gift, blood and memory and bridge of souls

and garth nix's old kindom series, sabriel, lariel and abhorsen

Well, if you've got a mind that can keep up with 100+ subplots along with the main plot, then Robert Jordan's Wheel Of Time (WOT) series is for you.

11-12 books in all (one yet to be released because he died =\ but it's being made!) and each about a good 700-1200 pages in length. Bloody good read, in my opinion.

ok WOW, have you actually read all those books? I read a hell of a lot of books but ive only read about six of them! lol
I don't think I've met a guy either that had read Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Jane Eyre. Scarlet Pimpernel is great too...

Most of these aren't really fantasy but they are good books. Agatha Christie is also great if you like murder mysteries.

the old kingdom series also has a book called across the wall, its supposed to b full of short stories, i never bothered reading it

try the laws of magic by michael pryor, most of its good, 2nd book is my favorite outta the series so far

'his dark materials' series are good, by phillip pullman, but they are making movies outta it Y-Y
