References for interview whilst having a current job? (1 Viewer)

Is it ok to ask your current employer for a reference for an upcoming interview with another company you want to want for?

I asked my boss for a reference, but we get on well and im not planning on completely ditching them.. like i want a full time job so i will still work for them on weekends and stuff or whenever they want me. So i guess it depends on your relationship with your boss.
