I thought it'd probably be a good idea if we all share our ideas for related texts for AOS.
Personally, I'm doing Imaginative Journeys, specifically Coleridge poems. I've decided to focus on "This Lime-tree bower my prison", "Kubla Khan" and "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner".
As related texts, I'm doing Fight Club and a greek myth for trials, but I might change for the HSC. What does everyone think about the Nick Cave song "Where the wild roses grow?" as a text? Is it really an imaginative journey?

Post your details here people!

journey: imaginative
set text: the tempest (play)
stimulus book: the ivory trail (book cover)
related text 1: the jabberwocky (poem/story)
related text 2: still deciding between back to the future (film) or somewhere over the rainbow (song)
sorry i dont know what that song is but im sure anything can be seen as an imaginative journey if you critically analyse it

in short? yes. whilst technically they cannot mark u down 4 having 2 songs, u r not showing variety and independant study and ur techniques will either double up on each other or not be varied enough. u will be marked down in the sense that if u do not pick different text types then u wont be able 2 adequately demonstrate the range of ur knowledge and so won't fulfill the criteria 4 a band 6 answer.
umm, my texts r 4 inner journeys, not imaginative, but ill post em neway:
-Journey to the Interior (poem)
-Cosi (play)
-The Shipping News (film)
-The Scream (painting)

Did you find that hard to analyse and stuff?
nah, i didn't really have to analyse it, the lyrics were kinda self explanatory.
but i researched the social context of the song a bit.

Imaginative journeys... ugh...

Coleridge (did I mention ugh?) -- I'll probably concentrate on Lime-tree bower and... whatever other one takes my fancy... maybe the Frost-whatever-Midnight one. You can tell I'm familiar with my texts!

As for other related material, possibly:
Amelie
Robert Cormier 'I am the Cheese' (if I can convince the teacher it's literature)
TS Eliot poem or two (Lovesong of Alfred whoever, Rhapsody of a Windy Night)
"Drops of Jupiter" by Train

...or one of the fantasy stories a nice teacher gave me to try and convince me not to attempt Robert Cormier :D

Howabout James Joyce - Ulysses, that could go for prettymuch any of the journeys.

You would get ULTIMATE respect from the marker if you could conquer that.
