what is the most ridiculous thing you or someone else would/has done to get EAS points?

I know of a student whose parents divorced in his HSC year to get him bonus points. they got married again early in the following year too.

share a story, or share an actual plan. we won't tell promizzzzzz

a family friend of mine who is a JP, signed an affidavit for someone who claimed that their children's ability to satisfactorily complete the HSC was affected by living beside a busy highway.

well i thought it was a little ridiculous.

sorry dani i may just have truanted that assembly =/. definately worth looking into though.

@ johony ha yeah i've heard things like that as well. it would be interesting to hear someone who works at UAC have a mouth off about the funniest applications they've ever gotten.

Should have used a chainsaw, for the insanity effect.
agreed. i'm de-sensitised to gun deaths as shocking as that sounds. yay second amendment.
but yeah, maybe if sickk upped the ante a bit he would have scored some points

Is it true that there's someone in our grade at school who has got EAS for 'sweaty palms'? Or is that just a rumour. :p

Hmm, I swear I read some article a year ago about that. :haha:
It also was along the lines of "private schools are abusing the system, applying three times as much as public school students do, blah blah blah unfair, abusing, taking advantage of the system, etc."

Then it went on to stupid reasons for EAS, which sweaty palms comes under.

Yeah - we've only got three cases of EAS at our school (two confirmed). Sweaty palms is the unconfirmed thing - we've got a kid who's had cancer, the whole shebang, so that's unfortunate....and then there's another kid whos got some disease thing that prevents him from writing [legibly], so he's been using a laptop for all his exams since Yr 8, but since HSC exams aren't allowed to be computerised, he's been dictating to someone and getting like double the time.

Re: private v public

Is it more the case though that some private schools simply make their students more aware of the system? I mean, I went to a private school, but at no point was I or another student with medical issues (relating to arthritis and joint problems in the wrists and shoulders) made aware of EAS. The other student managed to get her form in right at the end of the timeframe, but I missed out.

Just something to think about...Although I do admit that some students claim for ridiculous reasons.

yeah thats true. to an extent it can't really be claimed that a school is 'cheating' if there are lots of EAS applications in one particular year.. cos its possible that they're all legit =/.

it might have been the same article as astroe said, but i remember hearing about some particular medical centre that had an 'understanding' with a private school and basically its doctors were signing on applications for anyone and everyone from certain schools. thats just my vague memory of it.

it certainly is an exploitable system though. a few years back someone who had just finished at our school died in a car crash and a huge amount of people from they YEAR BELOW who were doing year 12 claimed EAS for emotional trauma and stuff. obviously some were legit, but so many people used it ha.

Yeah, that's the very one.
Doctors being paid to affirm absurd/false medical conditions for EAS purposes.

I think it's just that private school people are more aware of it? Whereas public school people, I think the Year Co-ordinator would deal with it only if the school knew about an existing problem.
Like it's not a overt option available to everyone? More like, "we'll come to you if we think you should go for EAS"

I feel that I'm in an environment where it's accepted to be like "Everyone, apply for EAS! Bonus points! If you get them, good, if you don't then you tried anyway."
But surely, the body which approves/denies these applications, they must know what's legitimate within their guidelines, so if people do apply for it and get it, well, I don't see why it's such a big scandal if these claims are considered within the guidelines of the EAS board.
