anyone into rock and alternative music? it seems that everyone is into rap and R&B these days, these no more punks left! so those that are still into rock and punk, give us a YAY! and say NO to all that other crap music!

my fav bands include
goodcharlotte, blink 182, linkin park, limp bizkit, new found glory, bodyjar, jimmy eats world, korn and many others

we should start restart the rock process and get more ppl into rock and punk instead of that other music!!!!! :D

i like alternative music not coz it's popular coz it's not popular at all if u see how much ppl is in all other music. i like alt music coz it's of the idiology it is based on for example freedom of speech, rebellion etc. one criticism i have of all rock bands is their reputation of becoming commerical and i hate that. for example linkin park, i started listening to them when they weren't even realised or played on the radio. so don't want alt music to become popular because that is what makes it unique unlike the other music types such as pop and rap that have based it's music on money.
Yay, rock rulz

rock=ALTERNATIVE?????!!! have you not noticed that EVERYONE LIKES ROCK AT THE MOMENT?

controversy:

rock is crap.

im sorry but i can play ne thing ne rock guitarist in my school can, from ear. And not one rocka can play ne of my pieces on guitar if i give them the tabs (they cant read real music) and come back in a week. i've seriously tested this. And i go to a public school where they dont force anyone to play normal music and absolutly every1 plays rock. im freakin sick of the rockas! i respect all kinds of music, but i cant stand the attitude of "im a rocka, im so alternative"! "ALTERNATIVE"??? in my year 12, thirty-one students play rock in music1, and 3 students play classical in music 2. thats 3 in 34. the last i checkd, those 'alternative minority' rockas are actually a huge fucking majority.

And another thing, sense im already ranting: they think theyre expressing so much agony, so much angst, so much pain. The only agony a rocka ever had is millions of dollars, fans, groupies and drugs. They think classical music is so prissy and girly?! well Chopin wrote music about his native poland being invaded by russia - rape, pillage, dead freinds, family? what do ACDC have to express on that scale? i dont think 'thunderstruck' can compare....

I seriously have nothing against rock music. I dont like it or listen to it but that doesnt mean i dont respect it as a from of expression. But music is just a joke at my school. We're copletly stocked up with about 6 electric guitars, 6 elec bass, 2 drum kits. My school only has 2 small music rooms, completly full of electric stuf. The funding goes all to rock. The teachers buy $30 D'adario pro quality rock strings, and 2cents a packet, yamaha nylon strings!!

both pianos are out of tune and broken. all the acoustic guitars have holes in them. the one clarinet doesnt work, probably because its at least 50 years old.

the rockers, on the other hand, have recently got 2 new stratacasters or fenders or whatever you call them, new amps, a new bass and drum kit.

the only solice is that hardly any rockas get into the conn, and fair enough - they get everything that want at high school, they can miss out for uni.

Well to me music was at it's peak during the jazz phase. Have you ever heard a BeBop solo? Or a Smooth Jazz arrangement trading fours? The level of talent required to improvise and solo in jazz, has never been paralleled in music (at least in my opinion)
Particularly artists like:
Grant Green - innovator in guitar, played it like a horn, avoided chords almost entirely
Ray Charles, Genius + Soul = Jazz
Lou Donaldson - perfect bop on sax
Art Blakey - Moanin anyone?

I guess my ranting generalised too much. Mainstream music these days is absolute rubbish. But there is some good undergound stuff that i feel deserves much more popularity.

I just recently got these two albums:
Dimtri from Paris - Night at the Playboy Mansion
- After the Playboy Mansion
(no theres no specific pictures or videos included in case you're wondering)
Awesome 80's funk - if you ever pass by "Beatdisc" at Parramatta i ORDER you to buy both albums very very good stuff.

As for radio stations, I can't stand most of them. Theres a cool jazz one on my preset, but it only plays jazz on weekends. On weekdays it airs Turkish news.

you have something of a point. Jazz kicks rock's poncy litle scrawny electric ass. Louis Armstrong from N'orleans jazz, Benny Goodman from swing era, D. Gillespie from Beebob, Coltrane from Coltrane-jazz (he's unique), and Jullian 'Cannonball' Aderly from soul/cool jazz = my favs, leaving out tons.

But on the skill thing - no jazz muso ever had as much technical command over their instrument as their equal classical equivalant. Think Liszt, what he did with a piano, think Paganini violin, the list can go on, cause these guys are just freaks. But jazz IS the epitomy of improvisation, no doubt. Trading fours kicks ass.

ps 'every body got me moaning' - G, F - 'cause of all the trouble i seen' - G,F. thats the words to the arangment art Blaky does.
Art blakey 'moanin' is the best - Boby timons is a great pianist.

1. Good rock music does not encompass themes of agony/pain/angst consistently throughout their entire career, maybe one or two songs.
2. Good rock music are influenced by classical music.

You're obviously not listening to the right rock music.

sure. You got me there, the only rock i hear is that which blazes out of the (always occupied by rockas) music rooms at lunch, and i cant make out the themes from playground.

ok. But, what do you say to the rest of my rant???
ie:

schools and funding,
talent (lack thereof),
whole attitude of 'alternative minority'

?

what say you to that, boy-o?

That is pretty unfortunate, which is why I did not comment on it.

Err comeback? What do you think this is, an argument? If you want to start one, I'll be more than happy to continue.

dissclose your gendre, mofo!

your obviously a guy, since you defend rock so readily.
Since it seems like you want to start an argument, I'm willing to join in.

Mate, you're a deadset motherfucking idiot.

You think you're so fucking intellectual with your bloody fucking New Orleans jazz music. If you really do appreciate jazz, and if I told you I listened to smooth jazz then you'd obviously criticise me for listening to watered-down shit. Shit that isn't real jazz. The same thing with rock, you listen to shit rock and you think that's what rock is about. You obviously don't know shit about rock music or any genre of music at all.

no. i dont listen to any rock ful stop.

And Armsstrong lived right thru and past the Norleans jazz era into swing, and almost into bop. Cool jazz was a mellowed down form, which was started in the west coast of USA in response to what cool jazz people saw as 'crazy' 'allover the place' in other words not melodic Beebop.

Cool Jazz produced some excellent artists - Mulligan, Getz, early miles davis to name a few.

seems i know something.
and Jazz isnt even my main thing, so as you asked me something thats not my main thing, ill ask you:

whats a caprice?
what did fernando Sor play?
where was handel born?
