Rudd making a statement in the house.
They are reintroducing the bill into the House today. Senate will sit on Friday (It doesn't normally).

Their aim is to ram the reintroduced bill through the house tonight and have the Senate pass it tomorrow.

Double Dissolution time!
The second rejection of the bills would have to come 3 months after the first. (So after 12 May)

Rudd would love to go to a DD election over this though.

No doubt about it and he'd come back in a stronger position.

If that happened, I think I'd start lobbying for the Coalition with the Young Liberals.

what makes me laugh is
if rudd never announced this package, all these people claiming 'they need the money' would have found ways to get what they require

Mr Rudd, 9:08:37 PM, presented a Bill for an Act to appropriate money out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the ordinary annual services of the Government in relation to nation building and jobs, and for related purposes.

Oh wow, Julie Bishop still exists. I was beginning to forget there was a shadow treasurer.

This is one of the most interest debates I've seen in ages, and they wait till 11:30 to let these blokes talk. Independants are funny old buggers.

Putting aside the moral dillemma from a political perspective Xenophon has made a brilliant move, now he's going to be the talk of the town for a week, should a DD get called many will attribute it to him, about 30% of the country will think he's a legend for doing it and suddenly Stephen Fielding the man who was supposed to be the moderate crossbencher will fade into obscurity.

I am watching with interest on A-Pac too Lentern.

I don't know if it will be a week. I see two scenarios: The $950 is turned into $850 after the govt uses the lesser expenditure for the Murray-Darling (another $50 off, just like the Greens agreed to). Or secondly, the govt realises that $2 billion is not a lot in the grand scheme of things for their bill and agrees to the concession.

The Labor government will look stupid if this doesn't pass, not Xenophon.
