When Iron reacts with an acid to produce 'rust' - is it actually rust? Like is it actually Iron Hydroxide Fe2O3. or whatevs
I just need to know that when Iron rusts in the presence of oxygen and water... is the same product formed as when iron rusts in an acid?

okey when iron reacts with acid, it is not referred as rusting it is simply acid-metal reaction
it is metal + acid --------> salt + hydrogen
eg if iron reacts with HCl it becomes FeCl3
Yes when it reacts with water and oxygen it is rusting - oxdisatiom
and different products

Right I kind of get it.
But in some books it says that acids have something to do with rusting...
I realize that it isn't the same thing but hmmm... :(

What you need to know is that you need a mixture of oxygen and water. But salts will and acids will accelerate the process. I don't think if u dumped an iron nail in pure acid with no oxygen will rust. But if its a mixture then it should be rust, cause ultimately your acid is aqueous (water with acidic salt)
