and for the record, its not "techno-ey" its taking off 70's disco music, which is a totally different thing.

not boo-hoo sad, but haha sad
hmmm that dont make sense
ahh fuck it.. ill just post the lyrics

I started a joke, which started the whole world crying,
oh but I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no.

and I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

and I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed, curseing my head from things that I'd said.

Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

and I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed, cursing my head from things that I'd said.

'Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

Many Neutral Milk Hotel songs are emotional, in a good way. Particularly sad songs (All from In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, which I recommend thoroughly. The death of Anne Frank is a lyrical motif, as can be seen in these songs..) would include;
-Oh Comely (And I know they buried her body with others, her sister, her mother and five hundred families. Fifty years later, I wish I could save her in some sort of time machine..
-Two Headed Boy Part II
-Holland 1945. (The only girl I ever loved, was born with roses in her eyes. But then they buried her alive one evening 1945 with just her sister by her side and it was weeks before the guns all came and rained on everyone..

Stairway to Heaven is a beautiful song, it's sad :(

Let it Be by the Beatles is also sad.

Classics are hard to pass by, songs are classics for a reason!

Oh, and Tears in Heaven.... Clapton has said he will never do another performance of this song because his grieving has passed, and that was the purpose of the song. Which I think is so appropriate... but I had so much trouble keeping a straight face when we sang it for year 6 choir.

A lot of songs make me feel slightly sad, yet really hopeful and inspired at the same time.
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
The Scientist - Coldplay
Heaps of Sigur Ros stuff in general. A bit of Radiohead too.
I can't think at the moment.

I agree with Melanie Jane on Bittersweet Symphony and The Scientist those are pretty sad songs, but God Damn Me by Filter's pretty sad

Haha, speaking of covers and updated versions... Call me sad, but after listening to Supertramp- The Logical Song for Rock eisteddfod three million times, I've decided I like the Scooter version much better.
