Seriously there are zero benefits. Increases in travel times are negligble

The governments spent too much time and money telling everyone that speeding kills. Not to mention the hole in the budget if all the illegal speeding that goes on is suddenly legalised.

It'd be a massively backwards step for an existing party to make that move.

Nah my dad was the driver--family holiday. But I know personally I wouldn't have topped 80.

If your car isn't capable of the speed limit, it shouldn't be on the road....its idiots like you that make me late for things!
Car's most certainly capable, thank you very much. I mean that I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going >80 on such a road. And there's plenty of places I'd feel comfortable >80, e.g. Warringah Rd at Roseville Bridge the speed limit's 80 but I've flown through at 90 a few times.

I'm generally of the opinion speed limits should be raised though, I just take exception to Bells Line of Road. For example, does anyone think Pacific Highway between....I dunno Gore Hill Freeway and the Newcastle freeway should be 70 instead of 60? And Wakehurst Parkway should be 100 instead of 80? (yes it's also a narrow one-lane road but at least it's not hilly or curvy).

Er.... there are some roads where the speed limits are higher than what it should be. Maybe this is one of them. I am not familiar with it though.

It's because of the type of traffic it attracts. Bells line, putty road, old pac hwy, royal national park all attract enthusiasts because they're all great roads - a few straights and more bends than you can count on fingers and toes.

(I think it's called) Lady Wakehurst Drive in Otford has a limit of 50, yet on the straights between bends I managed to top 100 comfortably on a learner legal motorbike, and I imagine a supersport would've knocked 160 off like it was nothing.

Rather than restructure all the laws, they just have to put a lower limit on the road to be able to take someones licence away for doing a dangerous speed.

Funnily enough that was the day I got booked for speeding. Not for more than doubling the 50 limit on that road but for doing 103 on the F6 (110 zone).

Unfortunately none of the roads mentioned are roads I take very regularly if at all. Only those familiar with the roads from experience can really comment on speed limits and I'm not one of them.

+1. A great example of when it's too high is Bells Line of Road--in some parts it's 100km/h but it's a very narrow, curvy and hilly road with one lane in each direction. Tops I'd go (and I'm a very fast driver) would be 80.
I am all up for raising motorways (atleast M7 & M4) here to 130kph, hell Old Windsor Rd could take 90 most of the way, but I agree Bells Line of Road should be set to 80 or even less.

The part that is 100km/h is truly dangerous there, I'd say it is insane to drive a RWD car there to the limit. I have seen people hitting 120km/h+ there in fog & wet conditions - it is just nuts.

The best part of bells line is kicking that back out at the top of fourth (~150 km/h) and holding a 120 km/h drift through an entire 80 zone. Basically S2Ks for life

well, white-man is obviously mentally deranged, speed limits need increasing, modern day cars make the speeds much safer! just get rid of all the old heaps of crap.

EDIT: he also isn't old enough to have his L's so doesn't know what he's talking about

yes, they sure do. which is why a speed limit of 80km.h is perfect. they will get to where they are going at 80km/h, whilst having a decreased chance of being involved in a fatal/serious crash, which coincidently would NOT help them get places except to the hospital or morgue

you may know about roads, I know about traction in cars....Going down a perfectly strait road at 80kph is pointless if there are no pedestrians, traffic lights etc, going this slowlydown motorways etc is just going to send people to sleep shane

EDIT: I didn't know who you were before but you managed to make a very bad impression very quickly, I once respected you, no longer
EDIT 2: I thought you were going into yr 10, therefore never driven a car

never said it increased driver fatigue, I just said you fall asleep, at least you've responded to my point with a counterpoint rather than an insult now though...I was actually implying that you spend longer on the road and end up even more bored so you fall asleep
