Definition of Marriage:
noun
1 the formal union of a man and a woman, typically as recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife:
she has three children from a previous marriage

http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/marriage

Proves a major point

yeah, but this isn't right and it's an adoptive word and who gave religious institutions the right to decide on a words definition?

Because you're wrong and in ten years time I will be happily married to the Caucasian woman of my choice who will be extraordinarily beautiful and sexy and awesome in every way and... yada yada yada.
And I'm sure you two will be very happy toge- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You're joking, right?

I just took this as an opportunity to voice an opinion... you can't really say an opinion is definitively 'right' or 'wrong' anyway. They can be... misinformed, etc.

And I'd like to be logical, but it's... a bit difficult actually. I'm hoping the maths will allow me clearer thinking.
You're wrong.
No wonder you failed the HSC extension two test, you can't think logically.

The definition would change if the law was changed.
Definitions of words change as they are used differently by society. Derp.

Offering flawed arguments as to why they should not be allowed to marry is thinly-veiled homophobia. Disgraceful.

I've always held the belief that, I don't care what some dude shoves up his arse. That is his business, and I couldn't care less.
So if he wants to be bound to one arsehole forever, like how a man would be bound to one vagina forever.....then I say go for it, and mazel tov.

My two cents

keep in mind I'm an atheist however i do believe in religious freedom

the government should not be able to force any church, that says that marriage cannot be between two men or two women, to change.

the homosexual community at large has rejected the idea of a 'civil union' because all they really want, is stick it the churches and get their Christian, Muslim, Hindu etc etc etc etc etc marriage

An equivalent would be the government legislating that Jesus did not walk on water or some shit

Thus if gay people want to marry for whatever reason find a secular way of doing it or a religion that permits it if your so fucking desperate, because you have no right in forcing a religion to change just so you can walk down the aisle of a church and be married by some priest dude.

if however the followers of the religion reach a consensus and hypocritically changes its position to get with the times, like they do on certain issues every couple of hundred years, than that's ok too

The LGBT community shouldn't be treated as second class citizens because they have a few rights less than straight people.

the kids will get bullied for having 2 dads or 2 mums.
kids get bullied anyway. For being too fat for being too skinny, everyone gets bullied so thats just inevitable. And why should hillbilly abusing heterosexuals be allowed to have kids but not lesbians or gays? Not all homos are feather wearing celine dion nutjobs...

Isn't marriage a religious contract, why do gays want to be associated with it if religions hate them?

Also do gays get treated the same by the government as straight de-facto couples do?
Religions do not hate gays. Well not all religions... buddhists are very accepting of gays... the dali lama once said "His holiness opposes violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation" and that was in 1997.. pretty sure most people would have caught up now.

why do you need a government certificate then, if it's about love lol
It is about love. But by giving gays marriage we are publicly accepting the rights of gay people and this would lead to gay people being more accepting of themselves. People shouldn't be ashamed of themselves or think something is wrong because they have different wants to the majority of modern day society.
