Thank you very much ! This really helpedhttp://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/Scaling-report-2017-TableA3.pdf
This is for 2017's HSC but these numbers are usually stable (note that the new HSC might possibly change things)
Look at the scaled mean (out of 50). Generally speaking - the higher the scaled mean, the higher the scaling for the subject. Note that scaling isn't uniform across all percentiles - if you achieve in the 90th percentile you won't get scaled down as much as someone in the 25th percentile (you'll usually always get scaled down, except for a few subjects).
26.2 / Biology
25.9 / Modern History
21.7 / Mathematics General 2
31.2 / Mathematics (2U)
31.5 / English Advanced
32.1 / Economics
25.7 / Legal Studies
33.7 / History Extension
35.9 / English Ext. 1
For comparison, Senior Science is 18.5, Chemistry is 31.4, and Mathematics Ext. 2 is 43.2.
I'd say anything that's 30 or above is "good" and anything in the low 20's might be considered "bad". But tbh I wouldn't worry about anything on that list except for genny maths.
Thank you !Biology - not good unless you do really well
Modern History- good
General Maths- not good unless you do well
Advanced Eng- good
Economics- very good
Legal studies- not good unless you do well
Extension history- good
Ext 1 english- good
This link is quite outdated, but should still provide an overview of scaling and other statistics. It's good to look at if you're curious.

Highlighting: Green – scaled exceptionally well; Yellow – scaled well; No highlighting – average scaling; Purple – scaled poorly; Red – scaled very poorly
True.....Dw about scaling just try do your best in the exam
Good point, but I would still get scaled down a lot even if I do well ?with pikachu^ everyone cares about scaling but if you do well in all your exams, you're gonna get a good result. I know many who's subjects were all in the scaled mean mark of 20's yet still received an atar of 96+..
Only for subjects with genuinely bad scaling do you get dragged down significantly even if you do well. Any scaled mean in the mid-20s is fine.Good point, but I would still get scaled down a lot even if I do well ?
